It feels inevitable that Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski are making a movie together. It is, of course, a super whimsical and heartwarming tale of friendship and (insert Spongebob Squarepants gif) imagination. If, directed by Krasinski, also stars everyone he and Reynolds collectively know, and then some: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Bobby Moynihan, Sebastian Maniscalco, Cailey Fleming, Richard Jenkins, Fiona Shaw, Louis Gossett Jr., Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Meloni, and Akwafina.
If will open in theaters in May 2024.
“Stone Age survivalist horror” is a genre that did not exist before 2022’s groundbreaking Predator prequel Prey. We are here for Out Of Darkness and all the stories about badass young women picking up weapons to defend themselves and their people. See also last year’s Slash/Back.
Starring Chuku Modu (Captain Marvel), Kit Young (Shadow and Bone), Safia Oakley-Green, and Luna Mwezi Out Of Darkness will premiere on February 9th, 2024.
Jenna Ortega is on the fast track to being an over-exposed It Girl. Miller’s Girl, which looks like a worse version of Mamet’s Oleanna, might be the project that pushes her over the edge. I’m getting strong ick vibes from everything going on in this trailer. It’s definitely not helping Martin Freeman’s rep.
Miller’s Girl will open in theaters on January 26th.
Let’s wash the taste of that one out of our mouths with this week’s laginappe. Alex Winter might not be living as high-profile a life as his Bill & Ted counterpart, but he’s an interesting social media follow, and he directed a recent documentary critical of YouTube and generative AI that we should all probably be paying more attention to. In the meantime, he’s still making movies, and Shudder’s Destroy All Neighbors looks suitably ridiculous and fun. It will be available to stream beginning January 12th.
