The Wonders from 'That Thing You Do!' Reunite, and They Look Great in White, Have I Told You That?

That Thing You Do! is and always will remain the greatest movie about a one-hit wonder ever (sorry, Eddie and the Cruisers). Not only is the movie credited as Tom Everett Scott’s first movie, it was Charlize Theron’s second movie ever, and Tom Hanks — to this day — credits himself (mostly jokingly) as having discovered Theron.

But mostly, the movie was about the music, and by that, I mean, the song: The Wonders’ “That Thing You Do!” The movie turns 21 this year (and yes, you are that old), and last night, three-fourths of the Oneders reunited to perform that song at the Roxxy.

Oh, man! Johnathon Schaech looks like he just walked off the set of a Redbox movie; Embry is still doing pretty well these days, though (he’s in Sneaky Pete, which you should all watch).

Here they are performing at the Roxxy.

Ooof. That wasn’t That Thing You Do!. But it’s good to see The Wonders together again, although there’s no word on Steve Zahn’s whereabouts, although I suspect he’s out having a movie career (no offense, Tom Everett Scott. Fun Fact: He nearly lost the That Thing You Do! gig because he looked too much like a young Tom Hanks).

Because you all clicked here to hear “That Thing You Do!” and I’ve disappointed you so far, did you know that the title song was written by Adam Schlesinger, the bassist for Fountains of Wayne, before Fountains of Wayne took off (the movie was released right before their first album)? It’s true! Here he is with Mike Viola (the actual singer of the song) performing the track.

My favorite thing about this reunion is that it didn’t happen on Fallon.
