The nice thing about The Expendables franchise is that Boomer action stars will never have to retire. The not-so-nice thing about The Expendables franchise is that Boomer action stars will never retire. It’s been almost a decade since the last Expendables movie which, recall, also starred Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson (WTF), but also Glen Powell. I have no recollection of him.

In Expend4bles, they’ve lost three regulars: Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, and Terry Crews, but they have added 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Iko Uwais, and Andy Garcia to go along with the core four: Jason Statham, Sly Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture. Unlike the previous three, Stallone did not have a hand in writing this one, which comes from director Scott Waugh (Need for Speed).

My question is: Why haven’t they drafted Gerard Butler into the franchise yet? He’s basically the poster boy for the bad action-movie-for-Dads sub-sub-genre.

Expend4bles hits theaters on September 23rd.
