The Apprentice will premiere tonight at the Cannes Film Festival. It stars Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump, Jeremy Strong as his mentor, Roy Cohn, and Maria Bakalova as Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump (ironically, Maria Bakalova is also the actress in Borat 2 from whom Rudy Guiliani tried to elicit a handjob). Very few people have seen the film so far, and there’s been no press because director Ali Abbasi wants the film to speak for itself.

One person who has seen the film is the notorious scumbag Dan Snyder, a man so awful that he was forced to sell his NFL team, the Washington Commanders. That’s a bit like the Legion of Doom kicking out a supervillain because he’s too awful even for the likes of Lex Luthor and the Joker. Dan Snyder has seen the film because he was an investor in it — he put in over $1 million — but apparently, not a wise investor. Snyder didn’t realize that The Apprentice would be an unflattering depiction of Trump, and now the pro-Trump billionaire is trying to stop the film from screening.

How bad is it? The film follows Trump’s earlier years, as he was being mentored by Roy Cohn while married to Ivana Trump. The film reportedly contains a scene in which Trump rapes his wife, Ivana, and is described as “violent” and “uncomfortable.”

Ivana spoke of the rape in a 1989 divorce deposition, though she would later refute the claim ahead of Trump’s run for President in 2015. However, the account was also included in Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald Trump, a book written by Harry Hurt III in 1993. He described the assault and also reported that Ivana had confided in friends that Trump had raped her.

There are numerous accounts of Donald Trump’s often violent sexual misconduct, but there’s never been video, so it never seems to stick (notwithstanding the $83.3 verdict against him in the E. Jean Carroll suit). Of course, this is not the same thing as actual video evidence because it involves actors playing roles, but maybe it will pierce the delusion that many have of Trump.

It’s wishful thinking, of course. It’s not clear that The Apprentice will even be widely seen, and in an environment where supporters are literally carrying banners that say “Real Men Wear Diapers” in support of a candidate who falls asleep in court and, as some have suggested, poops his pants, it’s unlikely that any of the unwavering Trump supporters will be persuaded by Bucky Barnes in a bad wig.
