A lot of things about X-Men: Apocalypse were deeply stupid, bad, and terrible. Remember how they inexplicably hid Oscar Isaac’s beautiful face behind a thick wall of blue make-up and prosthetics? Remember how the lovely Lana Condor played Jubilee? Probably not, because she was barely in it. Remember how the best action sequence was a revamp of Quicksilver’s run from the previous film? Remember literally anything else from that movie? Because I don’t, except that Sophie Turner made a sensational baby Jean Grey. And now, after (checks notes) 11 X-Men movies (!?!?!?!), one of them is finally centering firmly on a female character. Will that be enough to bring fresh life into the non-Wolverine, non-Deadpool side of this franchise? Check out the trailer for Dark Phoenix to find out.

Um. EXCUSE ME. Jessica Chastain is in this movie! I literally don’t care about anything else. I’m in, you bastards. I’m in.

Anyway, here’s the official synopsis:

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Dark Phoenix opens June 7.
