Samuel L. Jackson Has Been Dropping Fake 'Captain Marvel' Spoilers This Whole Time

At the start of the year, Samuel L. Jackson casually dropped what sure as sh*t seemed like a huge Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame spoiler during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that I’m going to repeat here because if you read the headline, Jackson is admitting to trolling reporters. (Emphasis mine.)

She’s pretty much the strongest character — in terms of someone with powers are able to do things — in the Marvel universe. So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it’s gonna be a dynamite thing. I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now — we saw throughout Infinity War — so now we know that we need something that’s as powerful as Thanos. And at some point, we’ll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she’s capable of. She’s one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel, so…

When I stumbled across that quote out in the wild, I was f*cking pissed. Not only did it spoil two Marvel movies, but I’m such a goddamn nerd that I know that time travel isn’t one of Carol Danvers’ powers, so what in the hell? Turns out Jackson was making shit up after a long day, which explains how he was able to get away with dropping honking reveals right in front of a Marvel publicist.

Via The A.V. Club:

“I was just blowing smoke,” he noted, adding that the line was technically a mistake. “We were tired. It was the end of the day. They had a bunch of people on set. You know, those days where they bring reporters to set and you’re working all day and they want you to stop in the middle of the day to go talk to a table full of people for no reason.” Larson, meanwhile, was clearly scandalized, mostly because she’s presumably had to field a bunch of “Why can Captain Marvel time travel?” questions ever since.

In Jackson’s defense, he was toying with the press back in January when the backlash against Captain Marvel was barely a blip on the radar. The world was still several weeks out from dickless wiener-boys losing their minds over Brie Larson making an absolutely reasonable request to see more women and POC at press junkets. (Case in point, The A.V. Club’s dismissive review of Captain Marvel is written by a white dude. Awkward.) So Jackson honestly had no idea that his words would be twisted into a litany of man-baby rants about how Captain Marvel is too over-powered. And clearly she’s not because he’s already making it clear that he was f*cking with reporters by saying she could time travel.

Or was he??

I don’t know. I haven’t seen the movie yet, and I’m genuinely terrified to take my kids to a theater where some unf*ckable incel might shoot up the place because the internet said the fictional space girl will make the fictional white dudes look like soyboys or some ridiculous shit that every sane and rational person should continue to laugh at. (Seriously, if I die, never stop mocking these losers.)

In the meantime, here’s the video clip if you want to see and hear everything I just talked about, but with way less profanity and palpable hate for my own gender. To each his own, I guess.
