No, I will not go through this horror again. I do not deserve this. It was bad enough when we gave it FOUR OSCARS. I thought Brian May’s ego had been sated enough that he would just pack away the rest of his bad ideas and go back to worshipping badgers. Can’t we have a moment’s peace?

Apparently no.

Pinch of salt and all that because it’s Page Six, but yeah, Bohemian Rhapsody sequel. Because of course. Rudi Dolezal, who directed some Queen music videos and is conveniently writing a book about Freddie Mercury, said in a Page Six interview about the band’s manager Jim Beach, ‘I’m sure he plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid.’ He also claimed the film was ‘being heavily discussed with the Queen family.’ Here’s why I sadly buy this story.

Remember when Sacha Baron Cohen was going to play Freddie Mercury? He dropped out over ‘creative differences’ and everyone moved on. He then went on Howard Stern’s show and explained why he pulled out. He told Stern, ‘A member of the band - I won’t say who - said: “You know, this is such a great movie because it’s got such an amazing thing that happens in the middle.” And I go: “What happens in the middle of the movie?” He goes: “You know, Freddie dies.” […] I go: “What happens in the second half of the movie?” He goes: “We see how the band carries on from strength to strength.”

Well, wouldn’t that set-up work well for a sequel when you’ve already gotten up to Live Aid with the first film? And you’ve already fudged around with Mercury’s life enough to establish (wrongly) that he was diagnosed with AIDS a full two years before he was? And yeah, May has already expressed hopes for a sequel.

Do you think Rami Malek would come back for a movie where he gets killed off halfway through, or do you think now that he’s got that Oscar and escaped awards season without ever truly being held accountable for the film’s lies or the Bryan Singer problem, he’ll just pass? Maybe they won’t need an actor to play Freddie at all. They can just show a cardboard cut-out now and then. It would serve the same purpose as the first film.

A rep for Queen’s record label told Page Six they have not heard about any sequel but that The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story will air on ABC next month. So the cash cow continues to be milked dry.
