We’re not drawing any conclusions here, but this is very interesting.
Distributors The Orchard released a statement briefly detailing that tonight’s New York premiere for I Love You, Daddy, the latest film from Louis C.K. had been cancelled. Citing ‘unexpected circumstances’, The Orchard said they were ‘incredibly sorry for the inconvenience’ but offered no further details. This comes after the comedian, who has faced renewed questions over allegations of mistreatment of women, hastily dropped out of a scheduled appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbertthis week. He was replaced by William H. Macy.
C.K. has faced rumours and accusation of awful behaviour towards women for many years now, but in the aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein downfall, it seems that greater attention has fallen upon him. Tig Notaro, a former friend of C.K. before an unknown falling out of sorts, has said that the comedian needs to ‘handle’ such accusations, which include a much-distributed story from Jen Kirkman about a ‘known perv’ in the comedy world.
I Love You, Daddy opened at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it immediately raised eyebrows thanks to its obvious allusions to Woody Allen (a director C.K. has worked with). Flavorwire’s Jason Bailey reviewed the film for Pajiba, which you can read here.
This news may have something to do with this…
For weeks the NYT has been prepping a story about Louis CK and calling everyone in the comedy world and Hollywood, my sources have received calls…it appears that story will be published soon. Per @THR the premiere for his movie has been cancelled.
