Peyton Manning's 'Ghostbusters' Ad Is Either Smart or Desperate, But It's Not Funny

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is due in theaters in two weeks, and it looks poised to be another box-office flop, and this one didn’t even need superheroes to tank. No one seems to be that keen on the new cast (save for possibly Paul Rudd), and the novelty of seeing the original cast wore itself out in Ghostbusters: Afterlife (It doesn’t help that Bill Murray is not nearly as popular as he once was thanks to some bad behavior on set). Also, who thought it was a good idea to turn New York City into the North Pole?

The trailers have been bad, the marketing has been bad, and now this? A once-storied franchise trying to appeal to … someone? by featuring Peyton and Eli Manning in a spot that has much less to do with the movie itself and more to do with a joke about how the Mannings wear quarter-zip sweaters? It’s almost a good gag, but it’s wasted on a movie that no one wants to see.

It does not bode well for a film when the advertising is focused not on the movie itself but on Peyton and Eli Manning, and it’s not even football season.

Peyton Manning apparently did this with The Eternals, too. It didn’t work that time, either.
