It didn’t take long after the news of Harvey Weinstein’s abuses broke for people to talk about what a great movie it would make. It was the kind of David Vs. Goliath narrative, chock full of emotional roles and dramatic climaxes, that would be right at home in a Miramax movie, after all. Still, the notion always felt off, even if it was inevitable, but a year on, the first projects about Weinstein are going into development.

Two documentaries are in the works, but the more intriguing project comes from Kitty Green, the film-maker behind the Netflix dramatic non-fiction Casting JonBenet. The currently untitled film on Weinstein will apparently be told from the point-of-view of one of his real-life former assistants. Julia Garner, who just landed a SAG Best Actress nomination for Ozark, is in talks to play a part. The story in The Hollywood Reporter does not go into detail about what shape the film will take. Will it be a blend of recreations, meta-commentary and documentary like Casting JonBenet or will it be a more conventional narrative movie?

Either way, we can grumble all we want about it being too soon, but personally, I’m more irritated by the notion of the industry continuing to pretend they got rid of their ‘one bad egg’ and can now use it for profit and glory while ignoring all the other obvious bulls—t going on around them.
