On this National Bow Tie Day, Doctor Who fans received word that will definitely have them in a timey-wimey tizzy: Matt Smith, the second best of the NuWho Doctors (Tennant 4 Life), has joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX. That’s right, Matt Smith is heading to a galaxy far, far away, and while details are predictably still scarce to nonexistent, sources report that he will be playing a “key role.”

Now, my first thought was “Oh no. They’re going to retcon Rey’s parents being unimportant and he’ll be her dad in flashbacks.” Which may be true! I really hope that it isn’t because I love Rian Johnson’s decision to make her a hero regardless of her birthright, but we just don’t know. What we can do is speculate, the Star Wars fan’s favorite pastime after harassing the people on social media. Other than Rey’s dad, who could Smith be playing?

— A middle management First Order stooge, just like most of the other white British dudes in the franchise

— A droid, like the rest of the Brits that aren’t cute brunette girls or the latest Force Choke victim

— General Hux’s incorrigible brother who refuses to address him as anything other than “General Sux”

— In character as Mr. Collins from Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, a delightful performance in an otherwise terrible movie

— Snoke’s secret son who turns out to be the reincarnated Darth Plagueis the Wise

— Poe Dameron’s dishy new boyfriend who causes Finn to realize that he really, really wants to kiss the best pilot in the galaxy

— Rey’s dumb dad

So, what do we think? Sound off in the comments on your favorite theory and your favorite Doctor, because we can obviously rank things other than Chrises around here.
