I’ve been worried about The Batman ever since we all wondered whether Ben Affleck would pull off the cowl and cape to let his horrible phoenix tattoo breathe free. Once Affleck dropped out, my tensions began to melt away, especially after Robert Pattinson snagged the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the flick, leading most of us to believe the movie was more than what we’ve become accustomed to from DC over the last few years. (Of course, Matt Reeves sliding into the director’s seat prior to this helped ease our fears immensely.)
Sure, we’ve speculated about whether Joe Manganiello will still appear as Deathstroke and whether Reeves is taking cues from The Long Halloween, but my real worry was with the rest of the iconic cast of villains. I did not want Megan Fox in the Catwoman role, because no. Thank the comic book gods, we have confirmation that Zoe Kravitz, daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet (sexy Gods sent to mingle among us humans, surely), will be sliding into the catsuit and Batman’s confused emotions.
I am so relieved right now. Kravitz is a solid choice, embodying the sensual nature of the character and she’s a good actress. Her role as Catwoman also pushes us back to the The Long Halloween rumor, as she is one of the villains/heroines of that comic storyline. Now we await word as to whether Margot Robbie’s Harley will make an appearance as a baddie again, if a version of the Joker will pop up, and look out for Harvey Dent/Two-Face casting rumors.
I feel … excited for a Batman film again. This is weird, but I think I like it. Hiring talent for the roles? What will they think of next?
