Dune 2, one of the year’s most anticipated films, is days away from its big release. Excitement for the sequel is palpable as strong word of mouth and early reviews praise the film as a raucous epic. It is tracking to bring in upwards of $175 million in its opening weekend. There’s a popcorn bucket that people want to f***. There is excitement all around!

Still, nothing is capturing people’s imagination like Josh Brolin’s poetry about the film. It has been revealed in recent weeks that the Goonies star has written poems for his co-stars. Timothée Chalomet and Florence Pugh have both received poetry from Brolin. He even wrote one about the film and was asked to read it out loud.

Brolin sat down for a chat with certified nerd Stephen Colbert. A giddy Colbert tasked Brolin with reading his Dune 2 poem out loud for the Ed Sullivan Theater audience. A slightly shy Brolin, who dismissively says he wrote the poem “in a sauna, naked,” obliged, and the results are splendid. There’s a shyness to the No Country For Old Men star, though Colbert was doing his best to alleviate that.

After ending The Colbert Report, the eponymous star has been one of the more sincere voices in late-night. He’s not pandering or trying to make a joke. He doesn’t want to embarrass Brolin. Colbert treats his poetry (which references the f***able bucket) seriously and with admiration. It’s a kind, gentle moment.

Also, the poetry is not bad! Once you remove the randomness of it, it’s clear Brolin is a bit of a wordsmith. He just happens to be writing about an almost $200 million space opera with, again, a novelty popcorn that people want to stick their d*** (or fist) into.
