With Trainwreck, John Cena made the leap from WWE wrestler to comedy actor, and blew us all away with his timing and aw-shucks innocence in the face of so much raunchy humor. Since then, he’s popped up in Sisters, Daddy’s Home 1 & 2 (groan), and fronted the cute cartoon flick Ferdinand, perfectly cast as a gentle-hearted bull. But with the upcoming Blockers, Cena’s star power will be officially tested.

Cena co-stars in this bawdy comedy with This is 40’s Leslie Mann and Neighbors’ Ike Barinholtz, each playing parents of teen girls who are readying to lose their virginity on prom nights. Completely freaked out by their daughters’ blossoming sex lives, the three set out to derail this virginity-losing plan. Hijinks ensue.

In our round-up of female-directed 2018 movies, we worried that this prudish premise would veer into slut-shaming. After all, how many teen comedies praise teen boys for losing their V-cards? Why must it be a travesty that three girls set out to do the same on prom night, which is unofficially celebrated with unspectacular teen sex festooned with too-high expectations and the itchy taffeta of gaudy dresses? But the latest trailer refocuses, showing the daughters with more agency, and the parents more clearly as overreacting clowns. So, yeah. We’re game.

Blockers hits theaters April 6th.
