Jesse Plemons' Mustache Distracts in Final Trailer for 'Antlers'

In the final trailer for Antlers, Keri Russell narrates the opening before things start getting super creepy. Naturally, this horror tale involves a kid (because when does it not), a scary ass drawing by said kid, silence, and a helpful Oregon teacher (yup, that’s Russell) who’s working to protect him from… what I can only assume to be antlers. Russell’s character is also trying to figure out exactly why this lonesome boy is drawing an exact replica of a murder scene involving half a body found in the wounds.

Antlers was directed by Scott Cooper and co-written by him, C. Henry Chaisson, and Nick Antosca. It’s like the trailer is screaming at me to go see this movie because it was also produced by acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro, though this movie doesn’t look as freaky or as warped as Crimson Peak, but we can’t have everything.

While the horror film looks very horror-esque, of course, the thing that stood out the most from the trailer (besides Jesse Plemons’ increasingly distracting mustache) is the fact that the film seems to be relying on indigenous lore without a single indigenous person in sight. There’s one, but he’s not a main character and I guarantee he’s only there to provide exposition.

“What is storytelling? Storytelling started with our indigenous people.” And yet, it’s another horror story starring white people. One day that will change. I hope.

You can check out the full trailer for Antlers below. The film will be in theaters April 17, 2020.
