Goddammit, Jared Leto. Isn’t ruining the Joker enough for you?

Apparently turning Batman’s most infamous nemesis into a trashy gangster with ratty tattoos and a penchant for Instagram posing didn’t turn Suicide Squad’s Leto off of superhero movies. And not only will his Joker get a solo movie, but now Sony is getting into the super Leto business with a Spider-Man comics movie in which the controversial Oscar winner will play Morbius the Living Vampire.

The good news is this production doesn’t seem to be part of the Disney/Sony collaboration that created Spider-Man: Homecoming and allowed for Spidey’s inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Leto won’t be tainting the MCU. More likely Morbius will be like Sony’s Venom, which uses Spider-Man comics characters without tying them to the Tom Holland timeline. In this proposed Morbius movie, the living vampire who began as a villain in comics will be an anti-hero. Which, again seems much like Venom is in his sort-of Spidey spinoff.

THR reports Morbius will be penned by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, creators of Netflix’s Lost In Space reboot, and directed by Daniel Espinosa, whose latest effort was the star-stuffed but disappointing sci-fi thriller Life. Which you might remember was once rumored to be a Venom prequel. Life is funny. Or Hollywood is woefully unoriginal. How is it only Thursday?

For those of us not up on our obscure Spider-Man baddies, THR offers a thorough breakdown. In short, a science experiment gone wrong turns the ominously named Michael Morbius into a self-proclaimed “‘pseudo-vampire’ who has to drink blood to live, can’t stand daylight and has very long teeth, but also happens to have super-strength, healing abilities and the power of flight without having to transform into a bat at inopportune times, because… comics!” So, he’s a super vampire who’s sad about it and also played by Jared Leto.

There’s no word yet on who will be tormented by Leto’s method acting bullshit join Leto in Morbius. Tell us who you’d like to see him torment co-star in comments.
