Logan. Okja. A Wrinkle In Time. I love a movie about an angry girl. Too often anger is an emotion our society declares is forbidden to girls. So in cinema, it’s all too rare to see a little girl be furious. But all the angry girls out there have a new hero to see themselves in, thanks to I Kill Giants.
Based on Joe Kelly’s acclaimed graphic novel, I Kill Giants follows fifth-grader Barbara Thorson (Madison Wolfe), an outsider who seeks to defend her small town against the violence of giants. Zoe Saldana co-stars as a new school counselor who reaches out to an isolated Barbara. And did I mention our heroine wears bunny ears and carries a big war hammer? Hell yeah.
“There are times when you have to ask yourself: Do I want to live my life as a coward or a warrior?”
I Kill Giants opens March 23rd.
