God knows I am a sucker for a good Nunsploitation film. In the past, I’ve written about why 1947’s Academy Award-winning Powell and Pressberger masterpiece Black Narcissus is the ultimate Nunsploitation film. I wrote a lengthy piece for the 40th anniversary of Ken Russell’s long-banned 1971 classic The Devils and pretty much lost my shit when the film finally hit Shudder last month. Killer Nun, Flavia the Heretic, Dark Waters, Alucarda, Nude Nuns with Big Guns? Yes, yes, yes, yes and thousand times YES.

But somehow I could never imagine this kind of Nunsploitation film, one starring Alison Brie, Dave Franco, John C. Reilly, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman and Fred Armisen to name just a few of the star-studded and hilarious cast of The Little Hours. Take a sneak peek at the official red band trailer before we continue:

Hot damn, I want this movie now. Written and directed by Jeff Baena, who wrote I Heart Huckabees and Life After Beth, the film’s trailer declares it based on The Decameron, a 14th century collection of stories by Giovanni Boccaccio, which range from erotic to witty. The Decameron has had a long influence on literature and film, setting The Little Hours alongside Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales and Pier Paolo Pasolini’s The Decameron. Fitting company.

According to the film’s synopsis, The Little Hours centers on three Medieval nuns (Brie, Plaza and Kate Micucci) who add some spice to their monastic life by spying on each other and berating the local peasants. But in comes Massetto (Franco), a servant who comes to the convent hiding from an angry lord (Nick Offerman) and the convent “erupts into a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry.” FUCK YES.

Unfortunately, The Little Hours doesn’t hit theaters until June 30th but in the meantime, we’ll always have this:
