The trailer for Halloween Kills, the latest entry into the decade-spanning franchise, dropped last week. It’s a sequel to 2018’s Halloween, which basically erased the history of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode as we know it. 2018’s movie presented us with a Laurie who had removed herself from society as a safety measure but, in doing so, had alienated herself from her daughter and granddaughter (Judy Greer and Virginia Gardner respectively.) It’s a story about how we protect ourselves from trauma and how sometimes we have to fight tooth and nail to reclaim our lives from it.

Halloween Kills picks up right where that movie left off. And it looks like the blood and gore and body count will be just as high, if not higher.

I particularly like this nod to Halloween 3: Season of the Witch with the Silver Shamrock masks they threw in there.

Halloween Kills will premiere, out of competition, at The Venice Film Festival. The Festival is also awarding Curtis with their Lifetime Achievement Award, The Golden Lion. In a statement, Festival Director, Alberto Barbera, said of Jamie Lee “[she] belongs to that rarefied group of Hollywood actors who best reflect the qualities that are the very soul of the global film industry and its legacy. A direct descendant of America’s film aristocracy — she is the daughter of two unforgettable stars, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh — Jamie Lee Curtis is the natural embodiment of a star who knows how to play roles with versatility and amenability, all while infusing them with her peerless charisma and signature personality.”

With a career hopscotching from TV, to slasher films, comedy to drama, Jamie Lee really has done it all and is a member of a rising group of older actresses who remind us that you can have grey hair and still kick ass. Checking her IMDb page I see that there’s one more installment of the Halloween series in the works, Halloween Ends, and I’m truly looking forward to the day Laurie Strode puts that masked m*th*rf*ck*r in the ground.
