Gal Gadot May Return As Wonder Woman

“Why did this take so long?” That’s what was going through my head when I saw Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman charge across a WWI battlefield. I had already enjoyed her appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice (which I love), but seeing her get her own movie felt special. It went on to make almost a billion dollars. While its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, was less successful, people still liked Gadot as the Amazonian warrior.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their plans for a DC Universe reboot, a lack of Gal Gadot in the announcement was not super surprising. Even with the limited details, it appeared to be a complete reset: New actors, new characters, the works. Still, a lack of Wonder Woman in the announcement (albeit with a possible show set on Themiscyra) seemed odd. Why not use a character that has already proved successful with audiences? Batman and Superman aren’t the only superheroes that DC has, dammit. Now, we may have some clarification.

In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Gadot revealed that she may wear the golden bracelets again. When discussing Wonder Woman, Gadot said, “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.” This isn’t really a confirmation, but it is intriguing.

As we’ve learned recently, Gunn’s DCU will feature a world already populated with superheroes as opposed to the Snyderverse, which went back and forth on whether or not heroes existed before Superman. If that’s the case, having Gal Gadot return as Wonder Woman could make sense. They’ve already introduced the multiverse, so this version of Gadot’s Diana could be both familiar and different.

Gunn has been clear that his take on the DCU will include newer elements, but he’s been coy as to what will be carried over from the last ten years. People like Margot Robbie, Jason Momoa, and now Gal Gadot seem to be sticking around in one form or another. The closer we get to Gunn’s Superman: Legacy or the soon-to-release Blue Beetle film, the more details we may receive. For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
