Don’t Mess With The Doctor – Rosario Dawson Circling Role in 'New Mutants'

It appears as though Rosario Dawson (Kids, Sin City) is going to join Chris Evans and Josh Brolin in the extremely rarefied group of actors who have played multiple Marvel characters across studio battle lines — mazel tov! Dawson is supposedly in talks to play Dr. Cecelia Reyes in Josh Boone’s New Mutants; Cecelia is a medical doctor and a mutant who can manifest protective bio-field shields around herself. It appears Reyes is being set up as a mentor character for the titular New Mutants, which makes sense since James McAvoy declined to return to the X-Men franchise. I loved McAvoy as Charles Xavier, but Dawson as a kick-ass, no-nonsense mutant doctor sounds like an equal trade off. Fun fact: McAvoy and Dawson were co-stars in Danny Boyle’s Trance (2013).

It is interesting to note the similarities between Cecelia Reyes and Claire Temple, aka. Night Nurse, Dawson’s character in the Marvel Netflix series. While both Cecelia and Claire are medical professionals, Claire is a non-powered individual and the Phil Coulson of the Netflix MCU so to speak, being the only character who has appeared in all four shows prior to the Defenders. I for one am looking forward to seeing what kickassery Dawson can do as a mutant in the X-Men franchise. New Mutants will be released April 13th, 2018.
