With Light of My Life, Casey Affleck has returned to the director’s chair for the first time since I’m Still Here, the controversial mockumentary that became notorious once word got out about Affleck’s alleged on-set sexual misconduct. Both resulting lawsuits were settled in 2010, but as Affleck’s star rose with his Oscar win for Manchester By The Sea in 2017, those allegations resurfaced. With the Me Too movement’s surge later that year, the continued concern over these allegations sparked a petition and pushed Affleck to decline his spot in the Oscars presentation in 2018.

But hey. It’s 2019 and Affleck is looking to move on. To prove it, he’s offering a new drama that he’s written, directed, and stars in as the father of a daughter. In fact, the whole film centers on a father-daughter relationship that must endure a terrible catastrophe.

Here’s the official synopsis of Light of My Life:

Parent and child journey through the outskirts of society a decade after a pandemic has wiped out half the world’s population. As a father struggles to protect his child, their bond, and the character of humanity, is tested.

Can you guess what half of the population has been wiped out? Women. Casey Affleck’s follow-up to the directorial debut on which he was accused of sexual misconduct against two women is a drama set in a world with no women. All that remains is his onscreen daughter, whom this noble father-of-daughter hero must protect from bad men.

Yeah. And we thought brother Ben’s next project merited a “yikes.”

Here’s the trailer for Light of My Life:

Light of My Life is out on VOD and On Digital on August 9th.
