I’m a lifelong fan of horror. I cut my teeth on The Exorcist, after all. I’m tired of reboots, sequels, and reborquels. I’m in the camp of people who think Skinamarink is boring. And I feel like we’ve seen enough exorcism movies for a while, thankyouverymuch.
Is Longlegs going to be good? Maybe. It looks creepy. But so did The Watchers. On the other hand, Hereditary.
Longlegs stars Nic Cage as the titular monster and Maika Monroe, who was fabulous in It Follows. Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Kiernan Shipka, and Michelle Choi-Lee (Joy Ride) also star.
It opens in theaters on July 12th.
In Sunny Rashida Jones plays Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As a consolation, Suzie receives a robot that her husband built at his electronics factory, and she and the robot uncover the dark truth behind the disappearance of her family.
Sunny premieres July 10th on Apple TV+.
With Reverse the Curse, David Duchovny has written and directed the most Dad Movie ever to tug at a middle-aged man’s heartstrings. It’s based on his novel, Bucky F*cking Dent.
Reverse the Curse also stars Logan Marshall-Green, Pamela Adlon, Stephanie Beatriz, Evan Handler (Californication), and Jason Beghe (Chicago P.D.). It opens in theaters today, June 14th.
For this week’s lagniappe, I present you with the teaser trailer for Prime Video’s You’re Cordially Invited.
It’s not quite Wedding Crashers, it’s not quite Father Of The Bride, and it isn’t Destination Wedding either. But it’s trying hard to be at least a couple of those. Maybe it’s Ticket To Paradise with more cursing. And funnier because Will Ferrell is always funny. Reese has her moments too. But this looks pretty mid, as the kids say. I’m sure it will spawn at least two direct-to-streaming sequels.
