My friends, I regret to inform you that Eddie Redmayne is back. Alas, he cannot be contained to the Fantastic Beasts franchise and now he’s back on the Oscar hunt. Because apparently some people still think he can act and haven’t accepted that he’s the worst actor on the planet right now. But thankfully, he’s not offensively playing a trans woman or bragging about the difficulties in capturing the realities of disability: This time, he’s just in a balloon.
Redmayne will reunite with The Theory of Everything co-star Felicity Jones in The Aeronauts, to be released by Amazon Studios. The film started shooting this week and the first image you see below was taken with both actors actually in the hot air balloon 2000 feet above the ground. Said the producer Todd Lieberman, ‘We’re fortunate that Felicity and Eddie have the nerve to do these stunts themselves as it authenticates our entire approach.’ Oh Christ, they’re starting the Oscar method bullshit already.

The Aeronauts, reports Variety, will tell the story of a hotshot scientist and his benefactor who decide to fly higher than any human ever has before in a hot air balloon, but, ‘as their ascent reveals their true selves, the unlikely pair discover things about each other and themselves that help them find their place in the world they’ve left below.’ The film will be directed by Tom Harper (not Hooper), who recently did the BBC’s mini-series of War & Peace. Jack Thorne, a multiple award-winning screenwriter and playwright who’s mostly known for the awful script to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will write.
According to the producer, both Redmayne and Jones will do a significant amount of shooting in the balloon and a few thousand feet off the ground for the sake of authenticity. So now Redmayne has the ability to stalk us through the air. Be warned, my friends. Eddie Redmayne will find you. Protect yourselves.
