'Suicide Squad' Set Photos and Videos Give Us A Glimpse Of Leto's Slippery Joker

If you hit up Twitter or Google, you can see some grainy pictures of Jared Leto’s Joker and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn interacting in some Suicide Squad scenes. I suppose their actions are technically spoilers, though they won’t be a surprise to anyone that’s ever seen Batman: The Animated Series or read any of the comics. Still, beware.

There is also an (obviously unofficial) video of the two characters in a scene. I watched it to see how Leto would move as The Joker. His movements, paired with the shiny jackets and shirt unbuttoned to his man forest, were very Elvis at first. However, when Leto moves into some sleight of hand, you can see something familiar begin to emerge. This Joker is a slimier, more grotesque, flashier Clown Prince of Crime than we’ve seen on the big screen thus far.

Looking only at his movements and costume, I would say I’m on board. Alas…

Ignore that tweet declaring the tattoos are gone. They’re still there and they’re heinous as ever. The…grills? Teeth silver-outer-things? Those are still very much a part of this Joker. It’s a distraction that Leto’s performance will need to overcome in order for me to buy into this Joker.

It isn’t impossible. I might end up liking this Joker. This movie. This might be the thing to pull me into DC’s emerging cinematic universe. It may be unfair, but it hinges upon Harley and her Puddin’ for me.
