After the release of Wonder Woman finally silenced many a naysayer and earned both critical acclaim and box-office success…
After Warner Bros./DC was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief upon realizing that they had a great film that left many audience members doing cartwheels upon finally seeing it for themselves (Especially gay audience members)…
After we all purchased scuba gear so that we could swim through the tears of many a fuckboy and Men’s Rights Activist who just couldn’t stand the thought of the film’s existence as well as the fact that Alamo Drafthouse held women-only screenings of Wonder Woman (and also, fuckboys and Men’s Rights Activists, for better or worse, we have you to thank for the clowns-only screenings of It this past weekend. So at least you’re good for something other than giving us all something to laugh about.)…
After months of negotiations between director Patty Jenkins and Warner Bros./DC which led many people to speculate as to whether she would be directing the sequel, or whether Warner Bros./DC were going to indulge in some sexist fuckboy behavior and replace her with a male director like how Summit Entertainment did to Catherine Hardwicke after she directed Twilight, which was a box-office hit and (faint praise, I know) the best and most entertaining film in the Twilight series, and whether Jenkins would walk away from making another Wonder Woman film and join Lucasfilm in order to replace Colin Trevorrow and take over the director’s chair for Star Wars: Episode IX…
…we can all finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Because as of today, Patty Jenkins has officially signed on the line that is dotted to direct, produce, and co-write Wonder Woman 2.
According to Variety:
Variety was first to report that Jenkins was already working on a script for the sequel with Geoff Johns, who oversees the DC film universe along with Jon Berg for Warner Bros. “The goal is to make another great ‘Wonder Woman’ film,” Johns said at the time. While an exact number could not be unveiled, sources say the number is in the $8 million dollar range to write, direct and produce making her the highest paid female director of all time. A substantial backend of box office grosses is also included in the contract.
And according to The Hollywood Reporter:
Sources say Jenkins will receive directing and writing fees in the high seven figures (think somewhere in the $7 million to $9 million range) on Wonder Woman 2 but, more significantly, will have a considerable backend. (At her peak, filmmaker Nancy Meyers earned in the $5 million range, according to sources.) The deal is a superheroic leap for Jenkins, who was paid $1 million for directing the initial Wonder Woman but was looking to get something more on the level of Zack Snyder’s pay after he helmed Man of Steel, according to sources. Just as Wonder Woman broke barriers for superhero movies, Jenkins’ deal breaks a glass ceiling for women directors.
Excuse me as I set off all of these reggae air-horns in celebration of this announcement:
And there are many others who are just happy to do the same, minus the reggae air-horns:

Now that Jenkins has officially signed on to Wonder Woman 2 people can shut the heck up about wanting her to do Kennedy Wars.

I can’t wait to see what Gal Gadot, Patty Jenkins, and their colleagues have in store for us next. If it also includes Chris Pine a.k.a. The Best Chris, somehow being involved and appearing onscreen as well, I seriously doubt that too many people will have any complaints.
Unless the Alamo Drafthouse decides to once again hold women-only screenings for Wonder Woman 2, in which case…break out the scuba gear once again because I expect the fuckboy tears to come in waves.
