Jared Leto Thinks His Joker Is Really, Really Scary, You Guys

Jared Leto knows that his performance as The Joker in David Ayers’ Suicide Squad will be compared to Heath Ledger’s anarchist and Jack Nicholson’s psychotic clown. Leto wants you to know that his version of The Joker is so goddamned scary, that the authorities might capture him after seeing it:

I can’t wait for you to see this — they’re going to lock me away in a box after this movie comes out.

2 spoopy 4 me, guys.

Listen, I admit that the leaked footage of Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime makes it look like he’s gone the slimy, completely psychotic route with the character. That’s fine. I’d really like for Leto’s take on the iconic villain to be different than what we saw with The Dark Knight. However, I’d like to see it for myself and not be told how crazy I’ll think it is when I see it. Especially by the actor himself or his costars in the movie. After all, why would they build it up if it wasn’t true?

Over the course of the filming of Suicide Squad, we’ve had Margot Robbie telling media that she was terrified of Leto and his method acting.

At first it was kind of confronting (to be up so close) but now I’m so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused.

There were gifts of bullets for Will Smith, a love letter and live rat for Robbie, and a video for the cast that co-starred a dead pig. Adam Beach told E!:

Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys. The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real. … He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, ‘Hello, how are you?’ But in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you’re in fear. But you love him because he has both of those genuine sides.

At this rate the movie-going public is going to see Suicide Squad while wearing a pair of Depends and clutching a bottle of Xanax in one hand and a bottle of Beefeater in the other for when this super terrifying Joker prowls across the screen. There’s only disappointment down this road, kids.
