It's Been a Blast: Saying Goodbye to the 'Mythbusters' Build Team

Thursday evening’s Mythbusters was a pretty standard episode of the science-y series. They tested airplane boarding methods for time efficiency and passenger satisfaction, and bullets made of bone or teeth to see if they would be spotted by a trained pathologist. Then, right at the end of the episode, Adam and Jamie made a shocking announcement: this episode would be the last episode of Mythbusters to feature the Build Team; Grant Imahara, Kari Byron, and Tori Bellechi. The reason given was that the show would be returning to its “roots” and reformatting to focus more on Adam and Jamie. The Build Team did not get to say their own goodbye in the episode. For those of us who have been fans of the show for a while (even if, perhaps, we were not as dedicated in our fandom as we once were) it was a big surprise. The Build Team has been a part of the show for ten years. To see them unceremoniously shuffled off without some kind of special seems a bit callous. BUSTER got a special when he was replaced, and he was a crash test dummy.

So, I thought we could put together our favorite Build Team moments here. I have to start out with my personal number one; the coffee creamer explosion where all three of them go from “WHOA AWESOME!” to “HOLY SHIT WE’RE GONNA DIE!” in about a tenth of a second. It’s also taught me that in a Build Team cage match, the smart money is on Kari. Her survival instincts seem to kick in the fastest.

Feel free to share your favorite Build Team moments, from the show or otherwise, below.
