Whatever Happened to 80's Music Video Stars Tawny Kitaen and Bobbie Brown?

The 1980s were a wildly different era, an era in which music videos frequently featured barely dressed women prancing around and showing off their assets in order to sell albums. Things have obviously changed considerably in the last three decades.

The difference now is that these women are promoting their own albums, and not the albums of largely untalented hair bands who reduced women to mere sex objects (I assume this is the difference). The two most prominent music video “sex objects” of the 80s, of course, were Tawny Kitaen and Bobbie Brown.

Kitaen — who turns 54 today — was probably best known as Tom Hanks’ fiancé in 1984’s Bachelor Party and as the woman featured grinding on a car in the Whitesnake video, “Here I Go Again.”

Kitaen was married to the lead singer of Whitesnake at the time, David Coverdale, who was like Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, if Robert Plant had been brewed in a petri dish and the chromosome for actual musical talent had been removed.

Kitaen and Coverdale didn’t stay married for long, because this was the 1980s, and that’s just how things worked. Kitaen soon married professional baseball player Chuck Finley, but that marriage fell apart in 2002 when Kitaen was arrested for spousal abuse — she allegedly pummeled her husband with her high-heel shoes. She filed for divorce three days later, asking for $12 million — or the amount that she said she gave up when she retired from acting (she was a co-host on America’s Funniest Home Videos) to marry Finley.

The legal problems didn’t stop there. She was arrested in 2006 for cocaine possession (while in the presence of her two children) and again in 2009 for a DUI. In between those arrests, she appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, and in 2010, she sold her two homes for over $4 million.

She has resurfaced recently. In February, she was on the red carpet for the premiere of Amazon’s series Bosch.

In 2011, she also appeared in a Funny or Die video demonstrating that she could still pull off those “Here I Go Again” moves on top of a car.

The other model was Bobbie Brown (sometimes known as Bobbie Brown-Lane), featured in several 1980’s music video, but best known for Warrant’s “Cherry Pie.”

The now 45 year old had several relationships with 1980’s hair band members, including Matthew Nelson, Mark McGrath (more of a 90’s guy, really) and Tommy Lee from Motley Crue. Bobbie Brown introduced Tommy Lee to Pamela Anderson, in fact. (Meanwhile, Jani Lane sadly died of acute alcohol poisoning in 2011).

Bobbie Brown has since gone on to do fairly well for herself. Although she spent several years in and out of rehab in the 90s, she hosted an infomercial for “Big Rock: The 80s Generation” in the late 1990s, co-wrote a memoir in 2013 about her time in rock star circles called Dirty Rocker Boys: Love and Lust on the Sunset Strip, and she was even a cast member in Fuse’s 2012 series Ex-Wives of Rock.

She currently runs an online clothing store.
