Since Harold and the Purple Crayon didn’t turn him into the next Chris Evans, Zachary Levi has decided to just torpedo his acting career in favour of being yet another hard-right anti-woke shill without a single original thought in his head. After endorsing both RFK Jr. and Donald Trump, he’s decided to slide further down the rabbit hole of conspiracies and creepiness. His latest target was a dead man and his colleagues did not approve.
For those who do not know: Gavin Creel was a beloved multi-award-winning actor best known for his work on Broadway. He was in shows like Hello Dolly, Hair, The Book of Mormon, and Into the Woods. Last month, he died at the age of 48 after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma. He received the diagnosis only two months before he passed. His death was a major shock. Creel was one of the defining leading men of 21st-century Broadway and an actor who was beloved by his colleagues, fans, and contemporaries. Nobody ever had a bad word to say about Gavin Creel.
So, of course Zachary Levi decided to hijack this tragic moment to spread some anti-vaxx nonsense.
He was doing an Instagram Live rant recently — the only audience he’ll get nowadays — and tried to claim that his ‘good friend’ and former co-star Creel’s death was related to COVID vaccinations. ‘You better believe that, with everything in me, I believe that if these COVID vaccinations were not forced on the American public, that the theaters weren’t being pushed and leveraged…’ Levi then paused before explaining that the theater owners and producers weren’t to blame, but he holds ‘people at the top’ responsible.
Just pure scumbag behaviour.
To the shock of nobody except Levi, Creel’s friends and colleagues called him out. Many took to the comments section of his video to share their anger and disappointment.
Norbert Leo Butz, a two-time Tony winner, wrote:
So incredibly disappointed you would politicize Gavin’s death. Really tried to give you the benefit here. Made it halfway through, which was hard as hell. But Was utterly heartbroken, as he would have been, that you felt the need to use his life and legacy to promote this awful platform. 💔
Chaz Walcott, former Newsies star, said:
It is harmful, dangerous and reprehensible that you would weaponize someone’s death of cancer to further your agenda about vaccines. It’s out of control- and I am appalled at you sharing that level of unproven disinformation with your followers. You should be ashamed.
Broadway publicist Lisa Goldberg also laid into Levi on Twitter, saying, ‘The absolute disrespect to Gavin’s memory, his friends & family, to science, to medicine, to all of the people struggling w/ diseases including cancer past & present, to all of the people grieving Gavin’s loss, or others grieving losses from all of the people who died from Covid before that vaccine was available??!’

medicine, to all of the people struggling w/ diseases including cancer past & present, to all of the people grieving Gavin's loss, or others grieving losses from all of the people who died from Covid before that vaccine was available??! ..
Say goodbye to ever working again on Broadway, Zach. Dude, remember when you were a Tony nominee?
I hate how common this line of conspiratorial hatred is. Every person’s death is now somehow related to the COVID vaccine. I remember some tinhatters claiming that Prince Philip’s death was related to the vaccine, as if that man wasn’t 145 years old and semi-preserved by formaldehyde and racism. Levi’s in deep with this nonsense because it’s all he has left. He’s got no career, no connections, and no charm. Dragging Gavin Creel into it was the nail in the coffin. People actually liked Gavin. He had a kind reputation. Levi claims in his rant that Creel was so dedicated to his health pre-COVID that he would skip after-show drinks with him. Uh, honey, maybe he just didn’t want to hang out with you. I’d put my money on that because pretty much every obituary of Creel mentioned how he was the life and soul of the party. Your invite must have gotten lost in the post.
Levi’s a contemptible larvae but he’s also just not good at being an anti-woke rabble-rouser. It’s the Laurence Fox problem: he can say all the nasty crap and spew the company line but he’s neither magnetic nor thick-skinned enough to make it work. Watching Levi do pro-Trump rants while throwing a dead man under the bus, it’s just sad and weak and uninteresting as well as offensive. If you’re so determined to kill your career, there are easier routes.
Let’s end this piece on a positive note. Here’s the iconic Gavin Creel singing ‘As If We Never Said Goodbye’ from Sunset Boulevard. RIP Gavin Creel.
