Youn Yuh-jung is 73 years old, and the first Korean actress to win a SAG Award, a BAFTA, and an Oscar, or the same amount of SAG Awards, BAFTAs, and Oscars that Brad Pitt has as an actor (he has additional victories as a producer). They are equally esteemed — in Korea, Meryl Streep is known as America’s Youn Yuh-jung — and there’s no reason in the world that Youn Yuh-jung should care about Brad Pitt just because he presented her with the award.
Still, American journalists cannot help themselves. They repeatedly asked her about Pitt, with one journalist asking what Pitt smelled like. “I didn’t smell him,” Youn told the press. “I’m not a dog.” What a dumb question. Stupid American press! (Fun Fact: Pitt actually smells like sandalwood, clean sheets, and blood).
She was also asked if she’d ever appear in a film with Pitt, who produced Minari, the film for which she won her Best Supporting Actress awards. “No, that would never happen with my English and age — I don’t think so,” she said. “It’s an impossible dream.”
That sounds like Youn Yuh-jung’s polite way of saying, “Brad Pitt wishes.” In fact, when Youn Yuh-jung met with the Korean press later, the actress confided — with a deliciously dismissive drink of champagne — that the American press simply would not leave her alone about that strange person with the man bun.
lol youn yuhjung was talking to korean media after the oscars and one of them was like "that's all they (americans) keep asking you isn't it 😔" and she went "they kept asking me how it was meeting brad pitt 🙄🙄" pic.twitter.com/XGEv8sp6mZ
