You Don't Have to Like Wrestling to Appreciate Jon Stewart Hitting John Cena With a Chair

Jon Stewart left his New Jersey farm this weekend to bring his retirement beard, however briefly, back to TV. Stewart made his post-Daily Show return to host the WWE SummerSlam. Now, before we go any further, I feel I should make a disclaimer here that I know and care zero percent about pro-wrestling. Well, okay, not zero. Pajiba taught me about Hulk Hogan’s racism (or at least reminded me) and that Ronda Rousey is pure awesome. But other than that— yup, nothing. Still, seeing Stewart happy always makes me happy:

Stewart apparently had plans to interview the wrestler Brock Lesnar, who recently disrupted the winning streak of The Undertaker, but that did not go as planned. Again, the little I know about pro wrestling from all those childhood sick days reminded me— what would this event be without some good old fashioned villainous pageantry and a well-placed musical number?

By the way, Jon Stewart wasn’t the only person there for you to fan over. Stephen Amell made an appearance as well.

And Amell, who has a history of jumping into the ring at WWE events, did not disappoint.

Anyway, in an interview before the event, Stewart said his main (or possibly only) goal was not to get physically assaulted.

Though if that was really his goal, his next move was maybe not the wisest. Apparently Jon and John have a long-standing beef, and Stewart decided to rush into the ring with a folding chair.

Unfortunately for Stewart, John Cena wasn’t exactly prepared to let that one go, and turned some civil smack-talk into a full-on body slam.

If Jon Stewart isn’t going to return to political commentary and news coverage, can he at least please, PLEASE show up on our televisions every once in a while to hang out with the Arrow and throw chairs at dudes? Please?
