Friends, if you thought the Royal gossip mill was going to go quiet in anticipation of the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child, you were sorely mistaken. It’s gone into overdrive because the Sussexes have unfollowed the Cambridges on social media.
(insert record scratch noise here)
Yup. It’s true, and in a real power move, they’ve announced it to the world via an Instagram post.
Basically, every month they are going to follow accounts that are pertinent to the cause they are championing for the month. Which means the only accounts they will follow will be related to their cause…and nothing else.
Seriously, that is a boss, alpha move if there ever was one.
Obviously, the question everyone wants to know is: Could this mean that there is truth to the rumors of a feud between The Sussexes and The Cambridges, which is supposedly over an alleged affair between Prince William and Rose Hanbury (which, clearly has been covered here, because duh. I’m a messy b*tch who loves drama, and Kayleigh is very eloquent in her thoughts.)
We’re not dealing with the Kardashians in this situation, so we’re never going to get a straight answer in my preferred medium: a talking head via a reality show. We’re dealing with the Royals, who prefer to keep their personal business private and within their own circles— low-level passive aggression is always the preferred method of battle for them. So this pretty much seems to fit within the m.o. (if it was intended as a public slight against the Cambridges).
On the other hand, the Sussexes unfollowed all of the official Royal accounts, not just the Cambridges, so there’s plausible deniability, here. Delicious.
Ultimately we’re never going to get a straight answer out of either the Cambridges or the Sussexes, and undoubtedly they’ll put on polite airs when Meghan finally gives birth. Additionally, the unfollowing could truly be about putting a spotlight on the causes that the Sussexes care about, and having them share the spotlight with the other Royal accounts they used to follow might dilute that message.
…but come on. They knew exactly what sort of scene it would cause by unfollowing all the Royal accounts. They could have staved that off by continuing to follow them…but they didn’t. Whether it was intended or not, there is a message there and I personally look forward to it finally getting through the gossip mill that Kate Middleton got drunk off of cheap wine and rang Harry and Meghan’s landline at 2 in the morning drunk singing “You Outta Know,” calling them out for the shady move they pulled.
Until that fateful day, we’ll be sure to keep you abreast on all the news pertaining to the Royals because this just keeps on getting better and better!
