Why is Dave Bautista Trashing The Rock and John Cena?

I’ll be honest, this post was initially more aggressive towards Dave Bautista, because I read his pull quotes on The Rock and John Cena from his recent interview with the Tampa Sun before I read the whole article.

Don’t get me wrong, the quotes on those two stand alone and the tone didn’t change, but the piece explains how Bautista has portraits of his three dogs in the style of sea monsters on the wall in his gym (super cool and something I’d totally do) and how he has a bunker in his home full of guns (gulp) so I walked it back a bit.

So what did he say against my forever-boyfriend The Rock, and the guy who was pretty funny in Blockers?

“Do not compare me to The Rock or John Cena. Everyone does it […] Those guys are wrestlers who became movie stars. I’m … something else. I was a wrestler. Now, I’m an actor.”

I mean not too bad. A little snotty, a little elitist, a little oblivious to the fact that his most recognizable role was playing an emotionally insensitive dude whose skin is literally blue.

He didn’t stop there, though…

Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him,” Bautista says. “Would I consider him a great actor? F—- no.

Aww man, really? Why put The Rock down like that? Hobbs and Shaw looks fun—which is more than I can say for 80 percent of the “good” movies that Bautista says he wants to appear in.

Look, is he right that The Rock is more of a movie star than an actor? I mean, I can begrudgingly agree to that with you, now, only because it’s technically true in 2019 (who knows what happens in the future. Remember, Rami Malek was in Twilight, after all.) It’s just…I’d rather hear from the guy who got his dogs made into the images of sea monsters and who has a portrait of Cecil the Lion atop a mound of skulls (again, in his gym, that place sounds super rad) than the guy who is knocking The Rock’s legitimate actor status, ya know?!

Just for his comments about The Rock not being an actor, I hope both he and Bautista get cast in a remake of Twins. That’ll show ya!
