Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced last night that they are separating with two almost identical statements, and while I don’t want to read anything into the distinction between the two statements, I’m totally going to read something into the distinction:
“We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another,” Chris Pratt’s statement read. Here is the statement from Faris:
Same, except for that whole “continue to have the deepest respect for each other.”
In either respect, it’s heartbreaking news, as the couple always seemed to be the picture of adoring perfection. They have always been incredibly supportive of one another, and — it seemed — very much in love.
I’m not going to try and assign blame or figure out why the couple has broken up, but I will say this: From my own personal experience, things shifted for me on Chris Pratt when his public expression transformed from the goofy, adorable wide-eyed wonder of early Pratt:
I miss Andy. Action hero Pratt always seems to be looking off into the distance, as though searching for his next project.
Nevertheless, we are obviously saddened by the news and hope the very best for the couple and their son. But do not blame love! As long as John Krasinski and Emily Blunt remain happily married, love will never die.
I will say this, though: This is the worst take.
