What Should We Read Into Joss Whedon's Tweet About Gwyneth Paltrow?

Here are the known knowns, as Donald Rumsfeld would say, about the relationship between Joss Whedon and Gwyneth Paltrow: She was in the first Avengers movie, but only because Robert Downey, Jr. talked Joss Whedon into putting her in the first Avengers movies. She is not in the second Avengers movie. There is otherwise nothing on the record re: Paltrow and Whedon.

Here are the known knowns about Joss Whedon: He’s very political. He returning to Twitter after a long absence in order to promote work he was doing on behalf of defeating Donald Trump. He produced several videos. Paltrow did not play a part in any of these videos (although, a slew of Whedon actors did). In fact, Paltrow — who is a Democrat, and who supported Barack Obama — also seems nonplussed about Trump’s victory, saying that it was “exciting,” and that “everything is up in the air.”

With all of that in mind, I don’t want to speak to what Joss Whedon is trying to say in this tweet, so I’ll let you all make up your own minds. I don’t want to put any words like “insufferable,” or “privileged” or “completely out of touch” into Whedon’s mouth.
