To quote one of the great philosophers of our time…
Yesterday evening Meghan Markle appeared unannounced at the British Fashion Awards to present the Designer of the Year award to Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller—who you may recall designed Meghan’s wedding dress back in May, and unlike my magnificent neon-green and magenta taffeta concoction that Meghan would have looked absolutely resplendent in, Keller’s design was actually picked to be the wedding dress. Whatever.
Anyway, people who enjoy light intrigue are mildly interested today, because it appears the Duchess took a series of photos in the boomerang booth with Rosamund Pike and Keller that were posted on the official social media channels of the British Fashion Council, only to have been removed overnight. Coincidentally, Meghan’s close friend, Jessica Mulroney had posted an Instagram story of Meghan on stage, which was almost instantly removed.
Are you dying to see the picture that was removed? Well, you’re in luck, because the photographer still has it up on his personal Instagram, but for how long? Who knows.
Ok, so I’m sure you’re wondering what’s going on. Although it should be obvious to you by now.
No—Meghan didn’t lapse back into her old, comfortable ways as an actress and forget that perhaps a photo booth isn’t allowed under Royal protocol.
The truth is much more obvious, and strange.
The photo was removed because of who else was in it—Rosamund Pike.
Now again, I can’t be one hundred percent certain this is what happened (JK, I totally am, but have to say that for legal purposes) but here’s what my sources are telling me.
It’s a little-known fact about Queen Elizabeth that she loves raunchy comedies and absolutely hates thrillers. Unfortunately there was nothing to watch one night at the Palace and the Queen put on Gone Girl, because she was a big fan of How I Met Your Mother (side note: she’s ok with how that show ended, a saga for another time, friends.) To say the Queen was absolutely horrified by what she saw in Gone Girl (and we’re not just talking about Ben Affleck’s screen time) was an understatement. It took the courtiers 2-weeks of practically non-stop showings of the Porky’s oeuvre to calm Her Royal Highness back down, and help her forget the violence, intrigue, and “smut” (as she called it) that she witnessed.
Unfortunately, it’s alleged that all of the principal cast of the movie are now persona non-grata with the entire Royal family, so it caused quite the ruckus last night when the photo of Meghan and Rosamund, Ms. Gone Girl herself, popped up on social media channels.
Thus, the quick removal of the photo, and the lack of comment by the Palace.
If you’re worried about Meghan and the Queen’s relationship, don’t be. I told you the Queen likes raunchy comedies, right? Well, she also likes shows about lawyers who don’t do any lawyering, if you catch my meaning *cough* Suits *cough.*
Meghan is a smart cookie. She’s not told the Queen everything she wants to know about the back-stage gossip of the show yet, so it’s highly unlikely there will be any more fall out from this episode. After all, the Queen is dying to know who on the cast dated, without the public knowing about, so I’m pretty sure she’s going to let this slide.
