Wait, Isn't He That Dude From that Thing? Enzo Cilenti Edition

Back in the halcyon days of the TV internet, Television Without Pity had a feature called “Hey, It’s That Guy!” which profiled character actors. It was immensely satisfying for those of us with a knack for faces to get a full run down of why we knew “that guy” and give us a name to take to IMDB in the future. So, in homage to them, I’d like to share with you a “that guy” or “that dude” that I recently encountered in the wild, and when I followed up on him I felt less satisfied at making the connection and more stupid for not making it earlier. This guy is a chameleon. And he’s been in like half of our favorite things over the last few years.

I first thought I might recognize him while he was playing Childermass in Jonathan Strange and Mr.Norrell. Here he is in that:

Now, Childermass is a pretty prominent character, so it was easy to look him up and find out that he was actor Enzo Cilenti. At which point I realized that Mr.Cilenti was familiar to me from Game of Thrones:

In which he played Yezzan, a slaver who bought Tyrion and Jorah and later challenged Dany’s control of Slaver’s Bay. So I wasn’t too surprised that I recognized him, since I watch every Game of Thrones episode three times, and despite some minor differences in styling, that’s not much of a stretch. But then I saw that he’d also been in The Martian as Donald Glover’s boss, which is apparently impossible to find photos of. And? He was in Guardians of the Galaxy:

His next big project? The action-comedy Free Fire from our new favorite studio, A24, also starring Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, and Sharlto Copley.

So this is far from the last time someone might be trying to place Mr. Cilenti’s face, and I hope that I’ve helped all of you scratch that particular mental itch and give you information to share in the future.
