Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a time when people that happily take away the rights of brown people pretend that they give two squirts of piss about anyone that isn’t white. There were many organizations and people called out on Twitter for their hypocrisy today (FBI? Yeah, we remember when you tried to get Dr. King to kill himself. Save your bs Tweets), but one Jefferson Sessions really tried it.

The same man with this as his pinned Tweet …

… shared a Tweet pretending to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. You already know Twitter was not having it.

Ah, yes. Back in 1986, King’s widow, Coretta Scott King, penned a letter to Congress asking them to block the appointment of Sessions to the bench as a Federal Judge. The full letter can be read here, but the gist is expressed in these snippets:

Anyone who has used the power of his office as United States Attorney to intimidate and chill the free exercise of the ballot by citizens should not be elevated to our courts. Mr. Sessions has used the awesome powers of his office in a shabby attempt to intimidate and frighten elderly black voters. For this reprehensible conduct, he should not be rewarded with a federal judgeship.

The irony of Mr. Sessions’ nomination is that, if confirmed, he will be given a life tenure for doing with a federal prosecution what the local sheriffs accomplished twenty years ago with clubs and cattle prods. I believe his confirmation would have a devastating effect on not only the judicial system in Alabama but also on the progress we have made toward fulfilling my husband’s dream.

Sessions did not receive his confirmation of the position. Twitter users would prefer he never forget that and keep the name King out of his mouth.
