After debuting a sweet short story about space travel in The New Yorker, Tom Hanks has announced that he will be writing a whole book of short stories. The subject? His #1 love: the typewriter. Yes, Hanx is writing a book of stories “loosely connected to photographs of typewriters from Hanks’ personal collection.” Does a book of short stories kinda about pictures of typewriters sound like the most boring thing in the whole world? Of course it does. Does that matter? No it does not. Because Tom Hanks is writing it, so we will read it. Here are some other things Tom Hanks could write about and we would climb over each other to buy in hardback:
These eggs
This single white Ked
This houseplant
THIS houseplant
This mayonnaise sandwich
Colin Jost
How many kinds of gum there are nowadays
So, yes, Tom. If you want to write a book kind of inspired by antique typewriters, we will read it.
