Thomas Middleditch recently came out as someone who swings, or if you read his interview with Playboy (like I did!), you’d know he wants us all to know the newer preferred terminology is “part of the lifestyle.”

Anytime a celebrity, actor, crystal healer, or what have you reveals themselves as someone with an interest that isn’t widely known about in the public discourse, there’s curiosity and perhaps misconceptions about said interest. Naturally, no one at Pajiba wants you to walk around not having the full scoop, so in the interest of public good, and making sure you don’t sound ridiculous at the office watercooler, or in a sensory deprivation tank, we’ve written a handy guide for you about Thomas Middleditch and Swingers. Enjoy!

Who is Thomas Middleditch?

He is an actor who stars on that show that that guy who works in tech/finance you know likes and tries to talk to you about a lot, Silicon Valley. He is also Canadian.

So, Canadians are into Swingers, too?

Yes. Duh. Obviously. Everyone was into it at some point in the ’90s. Just ask your parents if you weren’t there. (I mean, you might be here because of Swingers, friend.)

So, tell me more about Thomas Middleditch and being a part of the lifestyle.

I mean, look, we sort of covered this yesterday in Pajiba Love, but I’m happy to pull an excerpt for you from the Playboy interview so that you’re up to speed.

Q7: You and one of the Godzilla writers visited a swingers club with your partners during production. Are you and Mollie, your wife of four years, familiar with the swinging scene?

MIDDLEDITCH: I don’t know how much I can say, because I don’t want my wife to be mad at me. Only after I got married was I like, “Mollie, I’m sorry, but we have to get nontraditional here.” To her credit, instead of saying “F*ck you, I’m out,” she was like, “Let’s figure this out.” To be honest, swinging has saved our marriage. We have different speeds, and we argue over it constantly, but it’s better than feeling unheard and alone and that you have to scurry in the shadows. By the way, it’s now called being “part of the lifestyle.” The term swinging is old.

What do we know about his wife Mollie?

The most important thing you need to know about his wife, Mollie Gates, is that she worked on two Twilight movies, which makes her awesome because the Twilight movies are in fact, awesome. Don’t act surprised, any movie with a creepy robot CGI baby is automatically classified that way.

What does Playboy say about Swingers?

Although I can’t source an exact quote, I’m pretty sure they’re pro-Swingers. Everyone was at some point. Maybe after this article, you will be too.

When did Thomas Middleditch first decide he was interested in Swingers?

I’m not sure the exact date, but it would have to be after 1996, wouldn’t it?

What is his favorite part about Swingers?

I’m glad you asked! Even though this wasn’t covered in the Playboy interview, it’s obviously the soundtrack, it’s everyone’s favorite, you should know that.

What does Vince Vaughn think of all of this?

I’m not sure, no one has really asked for his opinion in a hot minute, to be honest. He’s kind of already had his day in the sun, sorry for you fans holding out hope for Old School 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Wait, I’ve been asking about Thomas Middleditch being part of an open marriage that entails possibly having relations with other people…

Oh, friend, who cares about that when there’s baby-faced Vince Vaughn on the table?

I mean, I did… I think?

OK, but do you remember this scene from Swingers?

No, I didn’t. That was pretty cool!

Exactly! Why should we be talking about someone’s private sex life when we can be talking about Swingers, baby!

You’re right. That’s so money!

That’s so money, baby, and you didn’t even know it!

I love Swingers!

Me too! Aren’t you glad you clicked on this article?

Sure! So what does this have to do with Thomas Middleditch?

Nothing, and absolutely everything. Now, let’s dance!
