Hear ye, hear ye! ‘Tis that time of year when the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is at its thinnest. A chill fills the air and nothing can be heard but the crinkling of fallen leaves and the hooting of a distant owl. Children collect candy from strangers and jack-o-lanterns light the way.
And celebrities spend lots of money on silly costumes. Here’s the round-up from best to worst:
Tied for first place are the two queens of Halloween, Heidi Klum and Janelle Monáe, who just so happened to go as the same thing: E.T. Thankfully, not at the same party.
Both of these women devote months of effort and sink many dollars into professional prosthetic artists and photographers and such to make these costumes and content. They’re great, but it’s also like, let’s have fun, you know? What’s the point if it’s all for the content? Can you breathe in there for more than five minutes?
In the spirit of just having a good time, I give you Anne Hathaway, who dressed as a rough-around-the-edges…haunted Statue of Liberty? I don’t really know, but I’m into it.
For those same reasons, may I offer Zooey Deschanel as Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Lisa Barlow?
Or the slightly more recognizable but still achievable to the average person, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco as Alice in Wonderland and The Mad Hatter.
Then there are always the film homages, with varying degrees of professionalism. Sophie Turner went with The Matrix…
…Paris Hilton with Pulp Fiction…
…and Kylie Jenner as Demi Moore in Striptease. Bet you forgot about that movie! (I can merely link to Kylie’s posts because she’s too good to be embedded, apparently.) Sister Kendall, meanwhile, stuck with some early aughts favorites. She and Kylie paid homage to The Lizzie Maguire Movie, and then she and bestie Hailey Bieber recreated The Simple Life, starring Paris and Nicole Richie.

And unfortunately, I can’t get out of a celeb Halloween costume article without discussing Kylie and Kendall’s other sister. You know, this one:
What is there to say about that, really? At least Kourtney Kardashian went spooky. Well, kinda.
We get it, Kourt, you’re in love!
I leave you with my personal favorite, Benito Skinner and friends as 2024’s pop Powerpuff Girls.
