Taylor Swift Is Getting Called the F*ck Out Again

Taylor Swift, who once denounced feminism then declared feminism after backlash, who has been questionable in her understanding of misogyny, who has been called out for white feminism and racism, and who was wholly, deafeningly silent throughout the election cycle, decided to finally speak up this weekend in support of the Women’s March.

Taylor Swift’s fans are as intense as the Beyhive but vastly more annoying and delusional. I mean, there was a lot of this.

Many fans were defending her choice to not speak up during the election. Many of those fans were also called out.

Could Taylor Swift have single-handedly changed the election outcome? Probably not. But she could have made a difference, which is precisely why she said nothing. She came up in country music and still has a huge number of fans from that world, the exact fans who voted Trump. She could have maybe influenced them, but she also could have incurred their wrath. So she chose silence.

I’m annoyed at Taylor Swift for this silence, and I admit it’s possibly not fair. No one *has* to say anything or do anything. But it’s deeply bothersome how she uses feminism as a prop, waxing and waning depending on her mood and the fluctuation of public opinion, and when actual lives are at stake, she chooses money and comfort, leaving the real work to her peers.
