Back in June, CNN reported that the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office was “reviewing a sex crime case” against Sylvester Stallone that stemmed from a report the Santa Monica Police Department received in November 2017. Today, Deadline reports that the DA’s office has declined to press charges because of “insufficient evidence to support a filing in addition to the allegations being outside the statute of limitations.” Which sounds like a win for Stallone until you realize that nobody knows if these charges are separate from the accusations in the Baltimore Post-Examiner that allege Stallone forced a teenager to have group sex with him and his now-deceased bodyguard in 1986 then threatened to “beat her head in” if she told anyone because they were both married men. So, yes, I’m about to ruin Rocky and/or Rambo for you because everything you loved in the ’80s was secretly gross the whole time.
From Jezebel’s original report on the DA’s investigation:
Right now, it’s unclear what allegations 71-year-old Stallone faces. According to CNN, the complaint was originally filed to the Santa Monica Police Department in November 2017, and concerns an alleged sexual assault take took place in the 1990s. In December, the Santa Monica Police Department was investigating a claim that Stallone raped a teenager in the 1990s, an allegation that the actor denied at the time, although he admitted to spending three days with the woman in Israel on a shoot in 1987.Another instance of sexual assault allegations against Stallone has circulated in recent years—this one involving a 1986 police report in which a 16-year-old alleges she was forced into a threesome with Stallone and his bodyguard, Michael De Luca, in Las Vegas. According to a report from the Baltimore Post-Examiner, the victim did not want to prosecute. Stallone denied the allegation through a spokesperson who called it “categorically false.”
Jezebel also refers to a 2013 Page Six reports that alleges Stallone sexually abused his half-sister Toni-Ann Filiti for years and paid her millions of dollars to remain quiet. Stallone’s people obviously denied the allegations and called it a “shakedown.”
“Unfortunately, celebrities, politicians and athletes frequently find themselves the targets of blackmail efforts by family members and associates who fabricate claims in order to extort payments from them.”
So there’s that information, which has been floating around for years and resurfaced at the height of #MeToo, yet Sly Stallone is currently filming a fifth Rambo movie and has suffered absolutely zero repercussions to his career from “false” accusations.
(Fun Fact: According to The Cut, the tiny percentage of “false” rape accusations include women recanting their stories after being encouraged to do so by the police and/or their own lawyers because the chances of getting a conviction are a goddamn travesty.)
It turns out that despite the lesson conservatives stupidly took away from the Brett Kavanaugh hearings because it was easier to digest than grappling with the shit-awful message they just broadcasted to women who live in constant, justifiable fear of sexual assault at any moment, their darling angel boys are not in danger of some “random slut” accusing them of rape and having their lives ruined. Who knew? (Women. Women knew.)
In fact, little Tommy will probably be fine whether he’s guilty or not. Just ask our President or the newest member of the Supreme Court. Don’t sweat it.
