Ah, it’s good to be Kings.
While the rest of us must wait until October 16th to catch more than a trailer’s glimpse of Guillermo del Toro’s impossibly gorgeous looking Crimson Peak, horror-meisters Stephen King and his son Joe Hill have already seen the film. The original story was written by del Toro — with screenwriter Matthew Robbins — around the time of Pan’s Labyrinth, but it’s been waiting for that moment the director could take the helm himself. If the trailer is any indication, it shares Pan’s incredible visuals and the feel of an old school horror film. (Del Toro has said he wanted to honor classics like The Haunting, The Exorcist, The Omen and The Shining.) But forget my thoughts on how it looks; those King men have a few words to say about the finished product — and it looks like we’re all in for a frightfully delicious treat:
Joe tweeted his approval first:
Remember that list I tweeted the other day, the 13 most beautiful horror films. CRIMSON PEAK is the most beautiful of all.— Joe Hill (@joe_hill) March 15, 2015
CRIMSON PEAK is Del Toro's blood-soaked AGE OF INNOCENCE, a gloriously sick waltz through Daphne Du Maurier territory.— Joe Hill (@joe_hill) March 15, 2015
Then, dear old dad weighed in:
Was treated to a screening of Guillermo del Toro's new movie, CRIMSON PEAK, this weekend. Gorgeous and just fucking terrifying.— Stephen King (@StephenKing) March 16, 2015
CRIMSON PEAK electrified me in the same way Sam Rami's EVIL DEAD electrified me when I saw it for the first time way back in the day.— Stephen King (@StephenKing) March 16, 2015
AAAAGGGHHH! I don’t think I can stand the wait.
Let’s console ourselves with pretty (creepy) pictures.
If you missed it, here’s the trailer again.
Crimson Peak stars, the Hiddles, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Charlie Hunnam, Burn Gorman, Jim Beaver, Doug Jones and Leslie Hope.
