With Stephen Colbert’s return to television coming soon with Late Show, Time magazine has bestowed the comedian their cover while promising “Colbert as you’ve never seen him.”
They’ve got that right.
The simple grey-scale photo not only features the funny man without his signature glasses but also stripped him of his radiant energy. While we’re not fans of this stern portrait, no one is being more critical of it than Colbert himself, who’s been ripping it up (metaphorically and literally) on Twitter all day:
I think the full name of the magazine is “The Ravages Of Time.” #ISwearItsAComedyShow #LSSC pic.twitter.com/pny99ll24k

You can’t see it from my @Time cover photo, but I’m laughing from the neck down. #ISwearItsAComedyShow #LSSC pic.twitter.com/DXAhm00dum
