Some Days, You Just Want to Punch Steven Moffat in the Face

I have this internal thing where I try not to use the word “hate.” I don’t want to let that particular emotion run away from me, endeavor to hold it closely and in reserve for very intense situations. This may be an intense situation, but it’s still not time for “hate;” it’s more like teeth-grinding-I-really-really-want-to-walk-up-to-Steven Moffat-and-punch-him-in-the-face-and-say, “STOP FUCKING TROLLING US, MAN!” Yeah, that seems to be his thing.

You must be wondering what all the fuss is about, and if you’re a Doctor Who fan, you know how the man is…so without further ado, I give you Moffat’s latest trollish declaration. Referring to the “sexual tension” between the Twelfth Doctor and Clara, Moff says,

“Because we’re in a very different place with the Doctor and Clara in the modern series, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the early stages of the Twelfth Doctor trying to pretend he doesn’t fancy Clara…’Oh you’re ugly, disgusting, stop looking so good!’

In truth, I think in most cases with the Doctor his tragedy is he always loves them more than they love him. That’s his story. He’s always besotted with them even though he’s trying to pretend that he isn’t.”

Fuckyoufuckyoufuckyou.

This is in direct opposition to what Peter Capaldi (who called it a “shared intention” with Moffat) has previously stated about Capaldi’s Doctor:

“There’ll be no flirting, that’s for sure. It’s not what this Doctor’s concerned with. It’s quite a fun relationship [between the Doctor and Clara] but, no, I did call and say ‘I want no Papa-Nicole moments.’ I think there was a bit of tension with that at first but I was adamant.”

Let me get this straight. Peter Capaldi is 57, Jenna Coleman is 29, and Steven Moffat thinks the Doctor fancies her in something other than a fatherly way? Let me tell you something mister, if you even hint at some sort of romance between these two, I am personally getting on the next plane so I can walk right up to you and punch you in the face. Whatever charges follow will be worth it. (*Note: Just kidding; not a real threat.)

Oh, and don’t bother getting up your hopes for ever seeing a female Doctor while Moffat’s still at the helm. Despite sometimes pretending he’d consider a woman if someone struck him the right way, his recent comments reveal otherwise:

“There’s an aspect to it where you could say that if you made the Doctor female you’d lose a fairly unique rare role model, I’m not sure if I’m completely persuaded by that argument purely because I don’t think the Doctor is the role model of Doctor Who. He isn’t. Because you can’t really base yourself on the Doctor. He’s off the spectrum, barking mad, from space and has lots of mysterious abilities that we do not. How do you base yourself on that? The role model is actually the other character, his best friend, the person who deals with this out of control, overgrown schoolboy racing around the universe being rather too imperious and too interfering for his own good.

It’s a long and complicated argument and there’s no vacancy in Doctor Who and given the way Peter is talking about it I don’t think there will be for a very long while.”

So, the companion — the young, attractive, female companion — is Who’s role model, and because she’s usually a she, who cares about the Doctor’s gender? Is that it? Well, anyway…don’t bother yourself with such “complicated” thoughts, because Capaldi’s here to stay.
