Shirley Manson from Garbage Thinks Kanye Should Drink a Tall Glass of Shut the F*ck Up

Beck’s response to being Kanye’d after winning Best Album at the Grammys the other night may have been incredibly classy (Beck said that he thought Beyonce was going to win the award, too), but the terrific Shirley Manson from Garbage didn’t think much of the stunt, or more specifically the truly shitty things that Kanye insinuated about Beck in his post-show rant:

“I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyoncé.

“Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration. And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

I don’t know what to say to that except that it’s clear that Kanye has never heard the music of Beck, or he’s a complete fucking moron, and given his choice of spouse, it’s a toss-up. At any rate, Shirley Manson shot back, writing the following on her Facebook wall:

Two things: 1) She’s absolutely right, and 2) I can’t wrap my head around the fact that Shirley Manson is 48 years old. How did that happen?

Also, I’m sorry. I just read the post-Grammy statement from Kanye for the first time, and I can’t wrap my mind around that, either. He really suggested that giving the award to Beck diminished art in some way? That is seriously one of the dumbest things he’s ever said. I mean, there are certainly people that have one Grammys that you can say that about, but Beck? Get your head out of your ass, Kanye.
