Seven of the Most Ridiculously Silly Celebrity Commercials You'll Ever See

Hey, remember that strange Tom Hiddleston/Nicholas Hoult Jaguar ad we posted a couple weeks ago? It was pretty damned crazy, but I’ll tell you what — the Hiddleston sold it.

Unfortunately, most other celebrities aren’t quite so adroit at walking that very fine line between over-the-top and just plain stupid. Carrying off inanity with a serious (yet, not laughably serious) air may be next to impossible for the non-Hiddlestons among actors; heck, even a True Detective couldn’t do it.

To demonstrate, here are seven truly ridiculous commercials, ranging from totally cringeworthy to, um…totally cringeworthy.

Jason Alexander for McDonalds

Uh, is it just me, or does he seem a little too into singing about burgers?

George Clooney and John Malkovich for Nespresso

It isn’t so much George Clooney going through the motions here as it is the combination of both Clooney and Malkovich playing this seriously. Guys, it’s so bad.

Chris Evans and Evan Rachel Wood for Gucci Guilty Black

Yeah, the backdrop looks cool because Frank Miller directed it, but Evans and Wood standing in as two completely asexual model-types, and Strange Love playing in the background? What’s so strange other than the idea that these two are into each other, and hot together?

Matthew McConaughey for Lincoln

The thing that is both amazing, and at the same time bothersome, is that McConaughey himself seems to be taking it all so seriously. I guess that’s a testament to his acting skills, but this series could have used a knowing wink somewhere.

Brad Pitt for Chanel

This is another case of an actor taking it all so seriously, it unintentionally becomes parody. Really bad, Brad!

Tommy Lee Jones for Boss Coffee

Now that’s lightening up! Maybe a little too much. I only wish he’d shot lasers from his eyes over a newspaper.

Nicholas Cage for SANKYO

As per his life contract, Cage takes it all the way home!

And now, one more reminder of why the Hiddleston always wins.
