Some challenges come with being the spouse of a celebrity. Yes, there are plenty of advantages. No one is denying that. There is also constant attention. People will publicly question your relationship as part of the news. A special breed of people may allege that you are part of a psyop bent on reelecting Joe Biden or some such nonsense. Other times, your spouse’s co-worker forces them to make jokes about you on national television.

Scarlett Johansson is married to co-host of Weekend Update and co-head writer of SNL, Colin Jost. Once (or twice) a year, Jost and his co-host/head writer Michael Che will prepare jokes for each other to read live on air. They are not shown their respective jokes ahead of time, which leads to some exciting, hilarious, and cringe-worthy (compliment) moments. They are great, though Johansson may disagree.

The MCU star recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show where she discussed the recurring bit and described it as “brutal.” “We need to go into witness protection after that night. Like, I am absolutely terrified we’re gonna be targeted. It’s so bad,” Johansson explained to Clarkson. “I black out for that period of the night. I actually don’t remember it.” I don’t blame her. The jokes are rough.

The jokes aren’t always about Johansson, but when they are, they don’t hold back. According to Johansson, the jokes have gotten more pointed over the years. “As soon as the picture came up, I was like [screams],” Johansson. told Clarkson while hiding her face. “It is brutal. It is brutal. I feel like every year it gets worse. It’s just terrible.”

While it may be brutal, Scarlett does have a way of dealing with it. She once again explained to Clarkson that she would more or less leave her body while the segments occurred. “I mean, I really do, I actually don’t remember that segment. I fully blacked out. And they do it at Christmas, too. It’s like a little gift to each other.” Being a spouse of a celebrity can be hard, and, apparently, so can being a spouse of Colin Jost.
